Tourism

Tourism is a people industry. It’s about making people welcome, about showing visitors the experience of a lifetime, and about sharing our local stories with people from other places and cultures.

The industry contributes $6.4 billion per year to New Zealand’s gross domestic product (GDP) and employs 5 per cent of the country’s workforce. International tourism is our largest export industry.

It’s vitally important that the people who work in this multi-billion dollar industry have the skills to deliver an exceptional experience to customers, every time. New Zealand’s success as a visitor destination is built on positive word of mouth and our country’s ability to offer a ‘trip of a lifetime’ experience to our visitors.

ServiceIQ offers a range of tourism qualifications and awards designed to help tourism businesses increase service levels, productivity and profitability.

The tourism qualifications we offer include specialist on-the-job training for tour guiding, Māori tourism operations, horse trek guiding, casinos, conventions and incentives, adventure tourism, business and tourism management.

Qualifications for this sector are developed in close consultation with industry organisations and workplaces, so they meet the needs of employers and trainees. ServiceIQ has strong working relationships with key players in the tourism industry including industry associations, Government bodies, conventions bureaus, casinos and tourism operators.

In 2011, ServiceIQ is working with partners in the tourism industry to develop an updated Tourism Workforce Development Strategy. Read more here
