Aircraft cargo handling supervisors direct ground crew in the loading, unloading, securing, and staging of aircraft cargo or baggage.
They determine the quantity and orientation of cargo and work out an aircraft’s centre of gravity. They may travel as a member of the flight crew and monitor and handle cargo in flight, or help to brief passengers on safety and emergency procedures.
Tasks may also include:
• calculating load weights for different aircraft compartments, using charts and computers
• directing ground crews in the loading, unloading, securing, and staging of aircraft cargo or baggage
• distributing cargo in a way that saves space.
