Airfield Operations
Airfield operations staff are responsible for the safe take-off and landing of commercial and military aircraft.
Airfield Operations
Tasks may include:
• following safety procedures to ensure the safety of people and planes
• planning and coordinating airfield construction
• coordinating with air traffic control, civil engineers, and command posts
• monitoring the arrival, parking, refuelling, loading, and departure of all aircraft
• maintaining radio contact with aircraft commanders
• training operations staff
• relaying departure, arrival, delay, aircraft and airfield status, and other information to other agencies
• providing flight planning and operations publications, charts and maps, and weather information
• coordinate communications between air-traffic control and maintenance staff.
Skills and knowledge
Airport operations staff need to have:
• good communication skills, written and in person
• the ability to teach others
• good reading skills
• the ability to think critically
• a good attitude to learning
• the ability to monitor themselves, others and their organisation to make improvements
• sound judgment
• problem solving skills.
