Computing Services Manager
Computing services managers are in charge of an organisation’s computer and information technology services.
Tasks may include:
• studying the organisation's computer and information systems requirements
• planning computer and information systems to meet the organisation's immediate and long-term needs
• advising on the computer equipment, software and networks to be used
• supervising the installation, use and repair of computer systems
• advising and train organisations on the uses of computer systems
• supervising the selection and training of computer staff
• managing the helpdesk area
• purchasing computer equipment.
Skills and knowledge
Computing services managers need to:
• be up-to-date with the latest computer hardware and software
• have good management, planning and technical skills
• be able to evaluate clients' needs
• be able to work with a variety of people and communicate complex information about computers in easily understood terms.
