School subjects
ATTTO offers two qualifications that your students can study at secondary school level:
- The National Certificate in Aviation (Introductory Skills) Level 2
- The National Certificate in Tourism (Introductory Skills) Level 2
These two qualifications have been specifically designed for secondary school students. They provide an introduction to the aviation and tourism industries.
The National Certificate in Aviation (Introductory Skills) Level 2
This National Certificate is designed to provide an overview of the aviation industry and the career paths available within this industry. The compulsory section of the qualification incorporates unit standards that cover general knowledge and possible career paths within the aviation industry.
The elective section enables students interested in pursuing a particular career to attain unit standards at Level 2 or above, in any of the following areas:
- Aeronautical Engineering
- Aeronautical Storekeeping
- Aircraft Mechanical Maintenance
- Avionic Maintenance
- Aircraft Servicing
- Aircraft Operation
- Airport Operations
- Flight Attendants
- International Air Express
Electives also allow students to select to study a range of generic topics that are required in a variety of employment contexts.
This qualification prepares people for entry into further National Certificate and National Diploma level qualifications in the areas of Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautical Storekeeping, Aircraft Operations, Aircraft Servicing, Airport Operations, Flight Attendants, Ramp Operations, and International Air Express.
The National Certificate in Tourism (Introductory Skills) Level 2
This qualification helps students gain the knowledge and skills required as a base for further training in the tourism industry.
The compulsory section of the qualification ensures students are able to demonstrate knowledge of:
- Tourist characteristics and needs
- The business of tourism
- Destination New Zealand
- World tourism destinations
- Work roles in tourism
Elective One includes basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Elective Two, Set A, is intended for use in New Zealand secondary schools and provides students with the opportunity to learn a cross-section of knowledge and skills required for a career in tourism. Set B is intended for secondary schools in the Cook Islands and covers knowledge and skills relevant to the Cook Islands tourism industry.
This qualification prepares students for entry to the National Certificate in Tourism (Core Skills) (Level 3). This in turn can lead to qualifications and careers in outbound travel, such as travel consultancy or wholesale travel, and inbound tourism within the New Zealand tourism industry.
