Being named a finalist in this year’s JRA Best Workplaces Awards is a welcome surprise for an organisation whose raison d'être is helping other businesses build stronger, more productive teams.

ATTTO (the Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation) is among 10 finalists in the running to be named ‘Best Small to Medium Workplace’, the JRA Best Workplaces Awards’ organisers announced today.

Kathy Wolfe, ATTTO Chief Executive (Acting), says becoming a great place to work has been a journey that has taken time and steady improvement year-on-year.

“We first entered these awards in 2008 and this is the first time we’ve been among the finalists. It hasn’t been easy and it is a tribute to our whole team that we have been able to create the positive environment needed to make ATTTO a great place to work,” says Kathy Wolfe.

“ATTTO’s mission as an industry training organisation (ITO) is to help our customers upskill and retain their people, and build better workplaces through training, so it’s fantastic to be recognised as an organisation that has a strong internal culture.”

Kathy Wolfe says ATTTO also extends its congratulations to Flight Centre (NZ), who were named as a finalist in the Best Large Workplace category. Flight Centre (NZ) is one of ATTTO's largest travel industry customers.

The JRA Best Workplaces Awards are based on an online survey completed by the employees of participating organisations. This year 237 organisations participated in the survey, 87 of which were considered ‘small to medium sized businesses’.

ATTTO ranked higher across all areas of the survey, compared with the average rankings for all organisations. Areas where ATTTO ranked considerably higher than the ‘Best Workplaces All Organisations 2011 benchmark’ included communication and cooperation (83.6% compared with the average of 68.7%), reward and recognition (82.0% compared with the average of 68.8%), and performance and feedback (78.6% compared with the average of 67.8%).

The award winners will be announced at an event in Auckland on 17 November.

ATTTO has a team of more than 50 staff spread across offices in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Blenheim and Rotorua.
