National Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering (Maintenance Planning) (Level 5)

This qualification is designed for people who carry out the maintenance planning function for organisations within the aviation industry.

The content recognises the following knowledge and skills in keeping with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulatory requirements for this role.

- Producing long-term maintenance forecast plans for an aircraft fleet and major aircraft components

- Monitor and control an aircraft maintenance activity

- Planning aircraft maintenance activities using project management techniques

-Defining and documenting the scope and work content of a planned aircraft maintenance activity

Candidates can progress through the National Certificate in Aircraft Servicing, National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Related Technology), National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Specialist Support) with strands, National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering, and the National Diploma in Aeronautical Maintenance Certification with strands to reach this qualification.

Career progression beyond these specialist maintenance roles is most likely to be in management, for which a range of management qualifications and/or training opportunities is available depending on the needs and aspirations of the individual.

The National Certificate in Maintenance Control cannot be used as a career pathway to reach this qualification, as this is a stand-alone qualification designed for any person within general aviation, employed in the administration and management of maintenance control for an aviation engineering organisation, and not the completion of maintenance work on an aircraft.
