National Certificate in Aviation (Private Pilot)
With strands in Aeroplane and Helicopter (Level 3). This qualification is designed to recognise and build on the skills and knowledge required to gain a private pilot's licence.
The core compulsory section of the qualification ensures that the candidate is able to meet the majority of the Civil Aviaion Authority (CAA) theoretical requirements for a private pilot's licence, as well as demonstrating their flying ability enabling them to commence solo fying. It also covers the requirements for basic first aid.
The core elective section completes the CAA theoretical requirements and allows peope to select which pathway is relevant to their particular focus, either choosing fixed wing (aeroplane) or rotary (helicopter). This choice will then determine which strand the candidate will follow.
The strand compulsory and strand electives allow people to continue their chosen pathway, through either aeroplane or helicopter. This qualification may follow on from the National Certificate in Aviation (Introductory) (Level 2).
Industry requirements are that a candidate must meet the eligibility requirements of the Civil Aviation Act 1990 and the Civil Aviation Rule Part 61 for a pilot's licence.
