This manual has been constructed to assist students in studying and completing the following unit standard:

18212 - Destination New Zealand
Level: 3, Credit: 8, Version: 1

The manual consists of two basic parts. Firstly, we take an overview of New Zealand as a whole - looking at its global location, and its key geographical features. These include mountains, mountain ranges, lakes, and rivers. Many of these extend for two or more regions of the country. It is best to look at them generally before considering their impact on any one region.
Secondly we consider the separate parts of New Zealand. The tourism industry divides New Zealand up into two dozen or more regions, so that each of them can promote the specifi c features, attractions, and activities of each area. We shall be considering each of these regions in turn, moving from north to south through the country.
