New Resources
Tourism Maori manuals
Eight manuals are now available covering the following unit standards:
- 17788 Explain historical aspects of natural attractions and significant Maori
sites in a tourism context - 17791 Explain the relevance of kaitiaki practices in a tourism context
- 17383 Explain the significance of Maori place names and their correct
pronunciation for a tourism context - 17384 List, compare and communicate Maori greetings and farewells for a
tourism context - 17391 Identify and explain the significance of Maori language expression and
identity in a tourism context - 17578 Explain the concept of whanau and its significance in a tourism
context - 17786 Explain the importance of respecting Maori customs and practices in a
tourism context - 17784 Examine and demonstrate karakia appropriate in a tourism context.
These manuals support trainees in the workplace who are working towards the National Certificate in Tourism Maori (Level 3).
Each manual is available for $15, or the package of eight may be purchased at the discounted rate of $90.00.
Personal Training Record (PTR) for Aviation Maintenance Engineers
The PTR is designed for trainees to document evidence that demonstrates the training and experience requirements for the issue and subsequent amendment of Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Engineers’ Licence (AMEL).
Museum Practice manual
The Museum Practice manual covers unit standard 20554 Explain the purposes, functions, and responsibilities of museums in Aotearoa New Zealand to support trainees in the workplace who are working towards the National Certificate in Museum Practice (Level 4).
Workbooks
Three workbooks have been developed which consist of various worksheets to help trainees in the workplace complete:
- Attraction Guiding, Limited Credit Programme (LCP)
- Excursion Guiding, Limited Credit Programme (LCP)
- New Zealand Tourism Industry, unit standard 18238 Demonstrate knowledge of the tourism industry in New Zealand
Foreign Exchange manuals
The Foreign Exchange tutor manual and student manual supports tutors delivering the unit standard 3750 Sell, process and advise on foreign exchange for travel to students in tertiary education. These manuals were rewritten in early 2008.
Professional Development manuals
The Professional Development tutor manual and student manual supports tutors delivering the unit standard 5070 Develop personal plans for a work role in a tourism and travel environment to students in tertiary education. These manuals were rewritten in early 2008.
History of Tourism manuals
The History of Tourism teacher manual and student manual supports teachers delivering the unit standard 9717 Demonstrate knowledge of the history of tourism to students in secondary schools. These manuals were rewritten in early 2008.

Museum Practice manual
This manual will cover unit standard 20545 Demonstrate knowledge of Maori in museums to support trainees in the workplace who are working towards the National Certificate in Museum Practice (Level 4).
Air Care manuals
These 2 manuals will be developed to support:
- Decision Making in the aviation industry
- Risk Management in the aviation industry.
Worksheets
Various worksheets and Letters of Attestation will continue to be developed, to support trainees and help guide the gathering of evidence required to show competency for each element in a unit standard.
National Certificate in Tourism (Core Skills) (Level 3)
This is currently under development and will be a complete resources package consisting of Tutor and Student manuals and an accompanying CD Rom with lesson plans and extra activities.
Modern Apprenticeship Package
This package will be designed to support trainees in the workplace working towards Modern Apprenticeship programmes in Tourism, Travel and Museums.
National Certificate in Tourism (Introductory Skills) (Level 2)
This will be a complete resources package consisting of Teacher and Student manuals and an accompanying CD Rom with lesson plans and extra activities. The package will be finalised following customer consultation.
