Casino workers lead and control games played at casinos, calculate winnings and losses, and pay out winners.

Casino Worker

Tasks may include:

• opening the cash float and game table
• checking cards and equipment
• exchanging money for chips
• starting and controlling the game
• closing the and making sure it all balances.

Casino workers usually specialise in a few games, such as blackjack, roulette, baccarat, pai gow, poker, Caribbean stud poker, money wheel and tai sai.


Skills and knowledge

Casino workers need to have:

• knowledge of a game’s rules and procedures
• an understanding of what different bets mean and what they’re worth
• knowledge of casino security risks
• excellent communication and listening skills
• customer service skills as they often have to deal with difficult customers
• good maths skills.


Personal qualities

To be a casino worker you need to be friendly and outgoing and enjoy working with the public. The job requires tact, honesty and reliability. You also need to be able to work quickly and accurately.
