Ticket Seller - Cashier

Ticket sellers/cashiers sell tickets and make bookings for a variety of events and attractions

Tasks may include:

• collecting and setting up the cash float
• receiving ticket requests
• providing information about the event or attraction
• preparing booking plans and tickets
• issuing tickets and collecting payments
• recording tickets sold and cash received
• processing phone, internet and mail bookings
• balancing the float at the end of the day.

They may also be involved in other activities, such as ushering, serving food and drink, cleaning, or assisting customers.


Skills and knowledge

Ticket sellers/cashiers need to have:

• knowledge of ticketing software and booking methods
• an understanding of ticketing, prices and sales techniques
• knowledge of the events, venues or services they are selling tickets for
• basic maths and money-handling skills
• good communication and customer service skills
• good record-keeping skills
• computer skills
• good organisational ability.


Personal qualities

You need to be honest, friendly, patient, helpful and a good listener. You also need to be accurate and responsible, with a pleasant phone manner. If you’re selling tickets at a counter or venue you need to have a neat and tidy appearance.
