Apprenticeships in Tourism
A Modern Apprenticeship in Travel and Tourism will set you up for an exciting career in the tourism or travel industries.
The Travel and Tourism Modern Apprenticeship programme is usually completed over three years, although it can be completed sooner.
Qualifications and skills
You will work towards the National Certificate in Tourism and Travel (Core Skills, Level 3) as well as the qualification relevant to the sector you are employed in, for example, the National Certificate in Adventure Tourism.
You’ll gain skills and knowledge in:
- communication
- customer service
- technology
- selling
- industry legislation, like health and safety
- tourism destinations in New Zealand.
Career prospects
Travel and Tourism apprentices are employed in a range of jobs:
- attraction guide
- adventure guide
- events organizer
- museum host
- tourism retailer
- rental vehicle representative
- visitor information consultant
- cabin attendant for railways and ferries
- frontline customer service roles.
Entry requirements
To be eligible for a Modern Apprenticeship in Travel and Tourism you need to be:
- aged 16 - 21
- supported in your apprenticeship by your employer.
