ATTTO is committed to ensuring that bright, motivated people continue to train and work in the dynamic Aviation, Tourism, Travel and Museum industries.
The 2009 ATTTO Scholarships are designed to acknowledge trainees and students for their excellence in training and study, and make it easier for high performers to reach that next level of training.
FLYING START SCHOLARSHIPS
There are two scholarships available, up to the value of $1,000 each:
- An Aviation Flying Start Scholarship
- A Tourism Flying Start Scholarship.
These aim to help talented Gateway students continue training to gain a flying start in their chosen career.
The scholarships mean winners can enrol in their next level of ATTTO qualification and have all study-related costs up to the value of $1,000 covered by ATTTO. Students can call ATTTO to check if their intended qualification is eligible.
Winners must enrol in a qualification in a workplace or through a tertiary provider within 12 months of finishing school.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to any secondary school student who currently takes part in a Tourism or Aviation Gateway programme.
How do I apply?
To apply, applicants must submit:
- A completed Application Form (click here)
- A 300-500 word statement about “Why I am passionate about my chosen career, the aspirations I have for the future, and how the Flying Start Scholarship will help to achieve this”
- A recommendation letter from a current teacher
- A letter of support from their current Gateway employer
- A photograph of themselves
- Optional: additional related evidence may be attached.

NEXT STEP SCHOLARSHIPS
There are four scholarships available, up to the value of $1,000 each:
- An Aviation Next Step Scholarship
- A Tourism Next Step Scholarship
- A Travel Next Step Scholarship
- A Museums Next Step Scholarship.
These aim to help school and tertiary students take the next step in their career development.
The scholarships mean winners can enrol in their next level of ATTTO qualification and have all study-related costs up to the value of $1,000 covered by ATTTO. Students can call ATTTO to check if their intended qualification is eligible.
Winners must enrol in a qualification in a workplace or through their tertiary provider within 12 months of winning the scholarship.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to any secondary or tertiary student who studies Aviation, Tourism or Travel. The Museums Scholarship is open to students studying subjects that have a clear linkage to the Museums industry.
How do I apply?
To apply, applicants must submit:
- A completed Application Form (click here)
- Details of previous work/volunteer experience and study
- A 300-500 word statement about “Why I am passionate about my chosen career, the aspirations I have for the future, and how the Next Step Scholarship will help to achieve this”
- A recommendation letter from a current teacher/tutor
- A photograph of themselves
- Optional: additional related evidence may be attached.

UP-SKILL SCHOLARSHIPS
There are four scholarships available, up to the value of $1,000 each:
- An Aviation Up-Skill Scholarship
- A Tourism Up-Skill Scholarship
- A Travel Up-Skill Scholarship
- A Museum Up-Skill Scholarship
These aim to reward existing staff members or volunteers with the opportunity to up-skill to a higher level.
The scholarships mean winners can enrol in their next level of ATTTO qualification and have all study-related costs up to the value of $1,000 covered by ATTTO. This can include the National Certificate in Business (First Line Management) (Level 3 or 4) if desired.
Winners must enrol in a workplace qualification within 12 months of winning the scholarship.
Who can apply?
Applications are open to any employee or person involved in a volunteer programme in the Tourism, Travel, Aviation or Museums industries who is currently, or would like to, undertake further workplace training.
How do I apply?
To apply, applicants must submit:
- A completed Application Form (click here)
- Details of previous work/volunteer experience and study
- A 300-500 word statement about “How I believe the next level of workplace training will benefit my employer and help me in my career”
- A recommendation letter from a current supervisor/employer
- A recommendation statement from an ATTTO Business Development Advisor (BDA) (if applicable)
- A photograph of themselves
- Optional: additional related evidence may be attached.

When can I apply?
Applications are open NOW and must be received by 5pm, Monday 2 November, 2009. Please post applications to The Hub at ATTTO, PO BOX 6466, Te Aro, Wellington 6141, New Zealand.
Applications which are missing information will not be considered. Please ensure a copy is kept of all posted applications, as they will not be returned. An email acknowledgement will be sent to applicants within 3 days of the application being received. Please contact ATTTO if an acknowledgement is not received.
