External Moderation Process
Our external moderation process aims to encourage an effective partnership between ATTTO moderators, training providers and workplace assessors
ATTTO has a mandated role to perform national external moderation. External moderation is a quality check of all providers and workplaces assessing against ATTTO unit standards to ensure national consistency in assessment decisions.

Good practice in assessment and moderation
We are committed to carrying out the principles outlined in Best Practice Principles for the Assessment of Unit Standards (NZQA, 2005) and Good Practice Moderation, which is supported by the Industry Training Federation (ITF), the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics Quality (ITPQ) and the New Zealand Association of Private Education Providers (NZAPEP).
The Assessment Moderation document is available on the NZQA website.

Tourism and Travel AMAP
An AMAP is an Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan. AMAPs are developed by standard-setting bodies and cover all areas of the National Qualifications Framework. AMAPs identify the specific criteria for accreditation and outline external moderation requirements. Each unit standard and achievement standard is assigned an AMAP which can be accessed on the NZQA website.
The Tourism and Travel AMAP is divided into two separate documents:
- Specific industry requirements for accreditation
- ATTTO external moderation requirements.
