Apprenticeships in Travel
A Modern Apprenticeship in Travel and Tourism will set you up for an exciting career in the tourism or travel industries.
The programme is usually completed over three years, although it can be completed sooner.
Qualifications and Skills
As well as learning on the job, you will work towards the National Certificate in Tourism and Travel Core Skills (Level 3) and the National Certificates in Travel (Levels 3 and 4).
The apprenticeships develop skills in:
- communication
- customer service
- technology
- selling
- industry legislation
- computerised reservations.
You will also learn about tourism destinations in New Zealand and internationally.
Career prospects
Travel and Tourism Modern Apprentices are employed in a range of jobs:
- domestic, short haul, wholesale or corporate travel consultant
- attraction guide
- museum host
- tourism retailer
- rental vehicle representative
- visitor information consultant
- cabin attendant for railways and ferries
- frontline customer service roles.
Entry requirements
To be eligible for a Travel and Tourism Modern Apprenticeship you need to be:
- aged 16 - 21
- supported in your apprenticeship by your employer.
