The aim of this manual is to assist the trainee to explain the significance of Māori place names for a tourism context and explain the importance of correct pronunciation of Māori place names for a tourism context.

This manual was developed to cover the unit standard 17383 - Explain the significance of Maori place names and their correct promounciation for a tourism context.
 
The manual supports trainees in the workplace who are working towards the National Certificate in Tourism Maori (Level 3).

This manual may be purchased individually, or as part of the Tourism Maori manual package which includes 8 manuals for $90.

This manual is divided into two sections, each section addressing the two elements mentioned above respectively.  Each section contain srelevant reading for each of the elements as well as activities and exercises to assist the trainee in comprehension and retention of the content within.

Section one will concentrate on the origins of Māori place names and their related histories.  Examples will be drawn from all areas of Aotearoa – New Zealand in an attempt to provide the trainee with a broad overview of the geography of the country and also the history of each of the areas.

Section Two will focus on the correct pronunciation of Māori place names incorporating a combination of examples and exercises.
